We Were in Year 125 AD!

I'm excited to share with you about this "ancient" trip. I totally recommend everyone to consider visiting these incredible historical sites in Türkiye.

I had an amazing trip to Ephesus, a fascinating ancient city located in İzmir, Türkiye. Ephesus is one of the biggest ancient cities in the world and holds great cultural and historical significance. In fact, it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015! The charged fee was 200 TL (February 2023).

During my visit, I got to explore the Library of Celsus, which was built in 125 AD to honor Tiberius Julius Celsus Polemaeanus, an Ancient Greek who served as governor of Roman Asia during 105–107 AD in the Roman Empire. Celsus himself funded the construction of this magnificent library using his personal wealth. Interestingly, he was buried beneath it in a sarcophagus. (source: ephesusturkey.com)

Another highlight was the open-air amphitheater, which is believed to be the largest of its kind in the ancient world, with a seating capacity of 250,000 people! Initially, it was used for dramatic performances, but there are also signs that it later hosted thrilling gladiatorial fights.
